It was great to see a lot of Rocket fans in Sheridan Park this morning. They were treated to a pretty special day for SM.
The day started off with the Girls JV Race. Maddy Coughlin and Becca Regan ran their best race of the season by finishing First & Second respectively. Then the Girls Varsity Race was contested a little while later and the Rockets First & Second again with Valentina Marini capturing first and June Lesinski finishing Second. The Boys Varsity Race finished off the morning with the Rockets going First & Ninth. Luke Strasser raced to the top spot and Joey Kehoe took ninth place.
It was very exciting to watch our athletes take the lead in each race and hold it to the finish. The runners are looking very fit and we are looking forward to the Conference & Sectional meet later this month.
Our next meet will be Westosha Central Invitational on Thursday, October 10. There will be 12 teams competing. Two races will be held. All the girls at 4:15 pm and all the boys at 4:45 pm. We will be using this meet as a training meet. We are going to have our athletes run certain times for each mile. We want to keep the kids fresh for the Conference meet the following week.
The Janesville Midwest Invitational turned out to be a very good meet for most of our team. Because of several athletes being sick, we were not able to field a full team for any of the races on Saturday.
Junior Luke Strasser continued a very good season finishing 52nd out of 358 runners with a PR of 16:32. He is very close to running a time that will be in the Top 10 of all times. On the JV level, Sophomore Easton Nowak finished 24th out of 447 runners tying his PR of 20:30.
Freshmen Valentina Marini continued to lower her time by placing 39th out of 305 runners with a new PR of 19:49. This time is the 2nd fastest in school history. June Lesinski is having a very good senior season by establishing another PR of 20:37 finishing 70 place in the same race. June's new time puts her number 6 all-time.
We are looking forward to competing at the Cudahy Purgold Invitational next Saturday, October 5 in Sheridan Park. We hope SM fans will turn out to support our hard working runners.
